Hicks Lead Lady Panthers in Paine Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga.---Senior guard Conisha Hicks and a trio of other starters toppled Morris College 100-50 and Langston Hughes College 87-85 in the Paine College Women's Basketball Classic at the Heal Complex in Augusta, Georgia, over the weekend.

With the largest margin of victory for the Lady Panthers in recent years (50 points), Clark Atlanta held a commanding 47-18 lead at the half over Morris while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 61 percent from the charity stripe. It was all CAU all day as senior forward Jomanda Smalls tapped Morris for her first career double-double with a game-high 20 points and 15 boards to lead Clark Atlanta. Four other Lady Panthers dropped double-digits including Hicks with 18, Denissea Law (16), Erika Sumpter (13) and Angela Penn with 10 off the bench. Though it was an evenly match in game two, CAU prevailed in the two-point victory over Langston behind the 25-point performance by Hicks for her largest output thus far in the early season coupled with Sumpter's second double-double in three games with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Clark Atlanta opened the second period nursing a 51-46 lead after the half and held off a scrappy Langston Hughes team that shaved off an 11-point deficit down the stretch, but came up short. Law and Nekia Sockwell also contributed with 12 and 13 points, respectively.

Next, Clark Atlanta (2-1) will host its Second Annual Lady Panthers Classic and HOME opener Friday, Nov. 22, against Augusta State at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 23, against North Alabama at 4 p.m. All CAU HOME basketball games are played at Epps Gymnasium.
