Lady Panthers Drop Another Close Game

Box Score

Atlanta, GA- Despite a 25-point performance by sophomore Conisha Hicks, the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers dropped another close game at home 51-49 to Concordia College-Selma (10-5) Wednesday.

Concordia (10-5) held a five-point lead with 38 seconds remaining in the second period before Ariel Jones’ lay-up made it a three-point game. After a pair of missed free throws by Concordia, Hicks connected on two from the charity stripe to move the Lady Panthers within one point 50-49. Rashida Young, who missed the two previous free throws for the Lady Hornets, stepped to the line and hit one-of- two which gave CAU(1-4, 1-1) one last chance to tie the game with 17 seconds on the clock. But the Lady Panthers could not capitalize on the possession and Concordia escaped by a slim margin.

Hicks hit 13 first-half points as the Lady Panthers trailed 26-21 at the half. The Lady Hornets definitely had their chances to put the game away from the free throw line with 21 attempts, but only connected on 11 while CAU hit 50 percent (5-of-10) from the line. Both teams committed over 20 turnovers and shot poorly from the floor. The Lady Hornets hit 20-of-51 (39 percent) and CAU made 21-of-61 (34 percent). Clark Atlanta, however, won the battle on the boards 46-34 led by forward Jasmine Alston who pulled down a season-high 13.

Young and Temperance Jacobs led Concordia in double-digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Next, the Lady Panthers will host conference opponent Paine College Saturday, Dec. 31, in a 1 p.m., match-up.
