Atlanta, Ga.- Sophomore Conisha Hicks dropped a game-high 19 points to propel the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers past Paine College 72-63 in conference action Saturday at Epps Gymnasium.
After trailing by a two-point margin at the half, the Lady Panthers orchestrated an 11-7 run and captured the lead on a pair of free throws by Hicks. They never relinquished the lead and led by as many as 15 points in the second period.
As they have done all season, the Lady Panthers outscored their opponent 43-32 in the second half and won the battle on the boards 50 to 37. As a team, the Lady Lions shot 35 percent (23-of-61) from the floor and CAU hit 36 percent (23-of-64). Clark Atlanta hit 23-of-34 free throws as a team while Paine made good on 12-of-23 attempts.
Hicks led a trio of Lady Panthers in double-digits scoring 17 of her 19 points in the final period. The team’s second leading scorer, Denisea Law, added 13 points while senior Jasmine Alston chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds with her first double-double of the season.
Quandra Rodgers led the Lady Lions with 13 pointed fooled by Michele Brown and Ciara Morris who added nine points each.
Clark Atlanta (2-4, 2-1) will host Benedict College Monday, Jan. 2, at 6 p.m., before a two-game road swing at LeMoyne-Owen (1/7) and Miles (1/9).
