Panthers Drop Two Games at Owensboro Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Owensboro, KY-Clark Atlanta University Panthers plunge to 1-5 after dropping two games in the John Worth Insurance/Hampton Inn Owensboro Thanksgiving Classic Friday against No. 15 Kentucky Wesleyan, 98-57, and Saturday against the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 80-61, before a sparse holiday crowd at the Sportscenter in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The contest was competitive for nine minutes, before Wesleyan (3-0) put together an 19-3 run midway through the first half to take a 34-17 lead and assume total control. Trailing 49-25 at the half, Clark Atlanta never got closer than 22 points the rest of the way, as KWC methodically pulled away.  Wesleyan's largest lead of the game was the final score.

Clark Atlanta was paced by Willis Brownlee, who had team-highs of 19 points and six rebounds. Brandon O'Brien tossed in 17 points and made four steals, and Dishone Gregory added 10 points.

In day two of the Classic, the first half against Missouri saw four ties and seven lead changes with the Tritons finishing the period on an 8-0 run and taking a 35-27 lead into the half.

Missouri (2-3) led by as many as 23 points in the second half and cruised to a 19-point victory. Troy Long led all scorers with a game-high 24 points while CAU’s Brownlee, who was named to the All-Tournament team, finished with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor.  Gregory and O’Brien added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

With a few weeks to spare, the Panthers will host Paine College Saturday, Dec. 31, at 3 p.m.
