Clark Atlanta Sweeps Savannah State for 10th Win of the Season

Lady Panthers improve to 10-2 overall, 5-1 in SIAC

ATLANTA — Sawyer Arbuckle had a match-high 13 kills and 11 digs as Clark Atlanta swept Savannah State 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 on Thursday at Epps Gymnasium. The Panthers improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in SIAC play.

Arbuckle hit .440 on 25 attacks, the highest percentage among Clark Atlanta players with at least 10 attempts. Kai Harris added 12 kills. Sydney Ray led the Panthers with 37 assists and three service aces, while London Jackson had a team-high four aces. Nakayla James led the defense with 16 digs. Carmella Jones and Antonique Coleman each had five total blocks; Coleman led the team with two solo blocks.

Clark Atlanta opened the first set with a Coleman kill and back-to-back Ray aces for a 3-0 lead. Savannah State drew within 18-15 before Coleman's kill stopped the run. A Jones kill gave the Panthers set point, and a Tigers attack error ended the set.

In the second, Clark Atlanta turned a 9-7 lead into a 16-7 advantage during James' service turn. Jones and Arbuckle had kills in that stretch, and Coleman contributed a solo block. Jones later put the Panthers ahead 24-16 with a kill before another Savannah State attack error closed the set.

Jackson served two aces as Clark Atlanta built an 8-3 lead in the third. Savannah State rallied from 19-11 to 19-17, but a Coleman solo block ended the run. The Tigers got within 22-20 before a Brianna Little kill, a Jones-Little block and an attack error secured the sweep.

Clark Atlanta finished with 43 kills and a .303 hitting percentage. Savannah State fell to 2-11 overall and 1-5 in SIAC play.

UP NEXT

The Lady Panthers will play their third game in three days tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 25) as they host Edward Waters at 6 p.m. inside L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
