Lady Panthers Trounce Albany State 64-49 on the Way to 14th Win

Garner shines with a game-high 20 points

ATLANTA, Ga. – Atreonia Garner scored a game-high 20 points as the Lady Panthers secured their 14th win of the season, defeating Albany State 64-49 Saturday afternoon at Epps Gymnasium. With the win, Clark Atlanta improved to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

The game opened with both teams coming out strong, making quick decisions that allowed them to adjust defensively. Albany State took an early 6-4 lead, creating opportunities to drive to the basket. Clark Atlanta responded with a fast break, including a corner 3-pointer from Trinity Jones, putting them ahead 7-6. Fouls also helped the Lady Panthers extend their lead. Albany State, however, capitalized on key steals to close the gap, trailing by just three points at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Clark committed an early turnover, which No. 12 from Albany State converted into a quick basket. However, the Lady Panthers quickly responded with a layup to maintain their lead. Albany State tied the game at the 6-minute mark and continued to stifle Clark's offense. But the Lady Panthers regained control late in the period, hitting a few layups and free throws to take a 25-22 lead into halftime.

Clark Atlanta came out of the break with renewed energy. The Lady Panthers ramped up their defense, drew fouls, and executed plays that led to consistent scoring. Back-to-back steals helped Clark build their largest lead of the game at 35-25. The crowd's energy was electric, fueling the team's performance. A key defensive play came when Clark forced a 10-second violation, followed by a travel call on Albany State. The sequence led to Garner heading to the free-throw line, and by the end of the third quarter, the score stood at 47-33.
The fourth quarter featured a scoring drought in the first few minutes, as multiple referee calls slowed the game's pace. However, Clark regained their energy from the third quarter and closed out the game with a strong finish.

Garner paced all scorers with 20 points, three rebounds, and three steals. She shot 8-of-13 from the field. Trinity Jones added 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting, along with four rebounds and two steals. Corriana Evans also reached double figures, scoring 14 points, grabbing four rebounds, and recording three steals.

The Lady Panthers return to action Monday night as they host Fort Valley State for D9 Night at 6 p.m.
