Evans and Garner Score 19 Apiece, Lady Panther Fall to Savannah State on the Road

Clark Atlanta drops to 12-5 overall

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Clark Atlanta women's basketball team fell short against the Savannah State Tigers, 69-64, on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Arena. With the loss, the Lady Panthers drop to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Clark Atlanta and Savannah State traded baskets and defensive stops early in the game. Corriana Evans led the Lady Panthers with consistent scoring, including layups and a block, while Savannah State's Amani Hamilton countered with mid-range jumpers and free throws. Both teams struggled in the paint and from beyond the arc, but Clark Atlanta edged out a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Savannah State gained momentum late in the second quarter, taking a 34-30 advantage into halftime. K'Lya Hankerson and Alayah Birch made significant contributions for the Tigers, while Evans and Atreonia Garner kept Clark Atlanta in contention. Savannah State's clutch scoring in key moments helped them hold the upper hand.

The Tigers extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Clark Atlanta 15-11 to enter the final period with a 49-41 edge. Savannah State capitalized on second-chance opportunities and turnovers while limiting Clark Atlanta's chances to close the gap.

Despite a strong fourth-quarter effort by Clark Atlanta, including key contributions from Leah Turner and Garner, Savannah State held on for the 69-64 victory. Myasia Jones' three-pointers and Birch's clutch free throws sealed the win for the Tigers.

Evans recorded her fourth double-double of the season, leading the Lady Panthers with 19 points and 12 rebounds in 35 minutes. She shot an efficient 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line while adding two steals and two blocks. Garner matched Evans' scoring output with 19 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Garner's aggressive play earned her 10 trips to the free-throw line, where she converted seven. Myori Pruitt contributed four assists in the loss.
