Volleyball Picks Up First Sweep of the Season After Taking Down Florida Memorial on the Road

Lady Panthers improve to 2-4 on the season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- In the two teams' second meeting in program history, the Clark Atlanta women's volleyball team swept the Florida Memorial Lions 3-0 on Friday evening inside the FMU Wellness Center. With the win, Clark Atlanta improves to 2-4 on the season. Shynique McGee led the way in kills with nine on the night to account for 10 points for the Lady Panthers. 

Freshman Deja Jackson started Clark Atlanta with the first kill of the day to get on the board. The Lady Panthers held the momentum for the majority of the first set after posting a .286 attacking percentage to win the first frame 25-17. 

The Lady Lions took a brief 17-13 lead in set one but Clark Atlanta responded with a 5-0 run to reinforce the lead at 18-17. The Lady Panthers went on to win the second set behind two service Aces from Dahlia Williams and an attacking error by FMU. 

Clark Atlanta stormed out to an 11-1 lead in the third frame and then a 13-5 lead before the Lions responded with a commanding 13-0 run to jump in front 18-13. CAU fought back to bring the score within two points (23-21) before getting back on track with a 4-0 run to close out the third set 25-23 to complete the sweep. 

Dahlia Williams held down the defensive end for the Panthers after rejecting a game-high seven total blocks (three solo). Deja Jackson hoisted a game-high 18 assists in the setter position for Clark Atlanta while Shynique McGee had nine kills and Halle Mitchell had eight. 

The Lady Panthers look to continue their winning streak as they return home on Tuesday, September 17 to host Agnes Scott College at 6 p.m. inside L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
