Lady Panthers improve to 5-5

ALBANY, Ga -- Fresh off a win at Florida Memorial University, the Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers went 3-1 at the SIAC East Crossover Tournament this weekend at the HPER Complex.
The tournament opened with two sweeps for the Panthers against Lane College (2-5) and Tuskegee University (2-5), followed by a victory over Miles College.

Shynique McGee and Sawyer Arbuckle each registered double-digit kills, with McGee totaling 14 in the first match and 11 in the second. Arbuckle added 12 kills in the match against Tuskegee.
The first two sets of the opening game were closely contested, with teams trading points. The first set was tied at 15 before McGee and Arbuckle combined for four kills to clinch it. The second set followed a similar pattern, showing high intensity. Despite a few late errors from Clark Atlanta, middle blocker Marli Goodie's kill helped the Panthers secure a 2-0 lead.

In their match against Tuskegee, the Panthers faced another challenge, with all three sets decided by three points or fewer. Nevertheless, Clark Atlanta came out victorious.

The final match against Miles College went to four sets. After an early lead for Miles, Clark Atlanta made a substitution, bringing in Colette Sinkfield, which helped them take the lead. The Lady Panthers then rallied with a five-point run to go up 13-8. Deja Jackson delivered multiple assists and kills to set up her teammates. McGee and Madison Spells also made significant contributions with key kills.

Clark Atlanta won the first set against Miles College 25-14. After dropping the third set, the Panthers knew they needed to secure the win. The match featured back-and-forth scoring, with both teams struggling at times. Ultimately, Clark Atlanta concluded with several key plays.

The team outperformed its opponents in blocks and assists during the tournament. Deja Jackson's leadership in assists and Nakayla James's defensive skills have been crucial to the team's success. With standout performances from McGee, Spells, and others, the Lady Panthers are well-positioned for future victories.

The Lady Panthers are now (5-5) and are hosting their next games in L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Come out and support!
