White's 20 Points Powers Clark Atlanta Past Benedict, Advances to Play Miles on Friday

White notches season-high 20 points

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Hannah White notched a season-high 20 points on the way to leading the Lady Panthers (15-11, 11-8 SIAC) to a 69-54 defeat over the Benedict College Tigers on Wednesday afternoon inside Tiger Arena. With the win, Clark Atlanta advances to face the number two seed in the western division Miles College on Friday at 12 p.m.

Clark Atlanta landed three players in double figures led by Hannah White with a season-high 20 points to lead all scorers, followed by Atreonia Garner with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Trinity Jones with 13 points in the win. 

The Lady Panthers held the lead the entire game to capture the wire-to-wire victory. Garner knocked down a jumper with 17 seconds left to play in the first quarter, giving CAU an eight-point (15-7) advantage going into the second frame. 

Despite CAU controlling momentum in the first quarter, Benedict fought back to get within three points going into halftime (29-26). 

The Lady Panthers regained control to start the first half as they used a 13-4 run in the first six minutes to mount a 44-30 lead over the Tigers. Trinity Jones knocked down a deep three-pointer with one second left in the third quarter, giving Clark Atlanta an eight-point advantage going into the fourth. 

CAU looked poised to advance as the fourth frame started as a Jones layup swelled the Panthers' lead to 13 points with five minutes left to play in regulation. Garner notched her 18th point of the day to mount a 16-point lead at the 1:41 mark in the fourth. Clark Atlanta would hold on to win 69-54 and advance to face Miles College on Friday, March 8 at 12 p.m.

The Lady Panthers won the rebounding battle by a six-point margin (40-34) while also scoring more points in the paint (36-30), and more points of turnovers (36-12). CAU shot 40.6% from the field, 24% from three-point range, and 61.1% from the foul line.
