Strong Defensive Second Half Powers Lady Panthers Past Fort Valley

Jones scores game-high 16 points

FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- The Clark Atlanta women's basketball team (10-9, 7-7 SIAC) held the Fort Valley State Wildcats to just 11 points in the second half to escape with a crucial 52-41 road win over the Lady Wildcats. Trinity Jones led the charge with a game-high 16 points and a season-high in rebounds with 7 boards.

Atreonia Garner logged her 14th double-figure scoring game of the season after scoring 11 points and pulling down five rebounds.

Both teams traded baskets evenly in the first quarter but the Wildcats edged the Lady Panthers with a last minute jumper to head into the second frame with an 11-9 advantage. Atreonia Garner and Corianna Evans combined for CAU's last five points of the second quarter but still found themselves down 30-25 going into halftime.

The Lady Panthers opened the third quarter on an 8-1 run to take a 33-32 lead midway through the frame. Clark Atlanta held Fort Valley to just six points in the third quarter to take a 38-36 advantage into the fourth. CAU continued to put on a spectacular defensive performance as they held FVSU to five points in the fourth frame to escape with a 52-41 victory on the road in Fort Valley, Ga.
