Evans Eclipses 1,000 Career Points, Lady Panthers Take Down Savannah State on Senior Day

Women's basketball improves to 12-9 on the season

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Corrianna Evans logged her 1,000th career point on Saturday afternoon as the Clark Atlanta women's basketball team (12-9, 9-7 SIAC) took down the no. 1 seed in the SIAC East Division Savannah State Tigers (16-5, 12-4 SIAC) 65-55 inside Epps Gymnasium. 

Clark Atlanta shot 42% from the field, 37.5 % from downtown, and 77.3% from the charity stripe. The Lady Panthers landed three players in double figures led by Corriana Evans with 17 points and eight rebounds to pace Clark Atlanta. Trinity Jones notched 14 points while Hannah White logged 12 points on the way to the win.

The Lady Panthers outscored the Tigers 12-8 in the first frame to set the pace for Saturday's matchup. Evans had four of those 12 points to take her team into the second quarter with a four-point advantage. 

Kiara Cole-Messiah knocked down a three with a minute left to play in the second quarter to push Clark Atlanta to a 34-24 lead over Savannah State headed into the half. CAU shot 50% (7-14) from the field and 55% (5-9) from three-point range in the second quarter to preserve the lead.

Both teams traded baskets back and forth until SSU scored six straight down the stretch to close the third quarter with just a four-point deficit (46-42). The Lady Panthers didn't let the Tigers come within more than six points in the fourth quarter as they closed out SSU 65-55 to improve to 12-9 on the season.
