Lady Panthers Fall to Edward Waters in 5-Set Thriller

Volleyball suffers first home loss of the season

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Lady Panthers fell just short against Edward Waters Friday night, losing by a score of 3-2 in a tight match. After a long evening filled with intense rallies and dramatic shifts, CAU fought hard through five sets but could not maintain their lead in the final set.

From the opening serve, the Panthers were on fire. They had a lead 16-6 in the first set and set the tone for the game. Clark demonstrated strong offensive play, with key contributions from players like Dimaliz Figueroa and Shynique McGee, who recorded multiple kills. The team also capitalized on errors from Edward Waters, including several attack mistakes that led to points. Service aces by Clark Atlanta added to their scoring momentum.

In the second set of the match, Clark Atlanta University came to play again. It started off with a volley and the teams kept going back and forth. Edgewater started to capitalize off of Clark's mistakes but Clark started stepping up with excelling blocks and kills. The set was tightly contested, but CAU ultimately secured the victory with a score of 26-24.

However, Edgewater was determined to bounce back after dropping two straight sets. Following their win in the third set, they aimed to make a statement in the fourth. The tension mounted as the score reached a 24-24 tie, but Edward Waters held strong, securing the final two points to clinch the set victory. This thrilling finish showed the competitive spirit of both teams, with Edward Waters emerging triumphant.

It all came down to the final set. The atmosphere in the gym was electric as the two teams faced off in a nail-biting match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Every point felt monumental, with players diving to the floor for last-second saves and executing perfectly timed blocks. The score was tied at 14-14 when Dimaliz Figueroa of Edward Waters delivered a crucial service ace, putting her team ahead 15-14. Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, an attack error allowed Edward Waters to clinch the victory.

Some positive stats made by CAU were showcased tonight. Shynique McGee and Sawyer Arbuckle each recorded 13 kills, while Madison Spells contributed 12 kills. On the serving front, McGee led with three service aces, followed by Allanah Drayton-Campbell and Deja Jackson, who each added two aces to the scoreboard. Defensively, Dahlia Williams made a significant impact with five blocks, while Makayla Murphy and Madison Spells each contributed four blocks. In terms of assists, Drayton-Campbell was the standout with 29 assists.


Clark Atlanta will look to make a comeback as they travel to Talladega, Alabama to face off against William Carey University on the 9th and 4 p.m.
