Lady Panthers Fall to Savannah State in Five Sets

ATLANTA, Ga. – Despite many efforts and attempts, the Lady Panthers lost to the Savannah State Tigers in a close matchup with the final score being 3-2. The set scores were (29-27), (25-18), (25-19), (25-20) and (15-7).

Set one was anticipated to be a close one from the beginning. Both teams scored points through successful hits and taking advantage of errors. Sawyer Arbuckle and McGee were standout players contributing to the team's points. Clark was down 19-14 at one point in this set, but Dahlia Williams with 2 big kills, swung the momentum in Clark Atlanta's favor, making the score 22-20, Savannah State. Clark unfortunately couldn't hang on forever and dropped the first set 29-27 after storming back.

After dropping the first set. CAU managed to turn it around by beating Savannah State 25-18 in the second set. They used team chemistry by utilizing everyone on the floor, which didn't allow Savannah to keep up their momentum. The game opened with several exchanges of points but as it progressed, mistakes from both sides affected the score. However, Clark maintained a lead. In the end, Clark was able to manage based on their offense and defense and concluded the match with a win.

The Panthers came out in the third set with much intensity, the Tigers battled back, giving our Lady Panthers a challenge, however CAU showed their determination to come away with a win, 25-19 in the third set.

The Tigers claimed the fourth set to tie the game at 2-2, following back-to-back losses in previous sets. Both teams traded points in a tightly contested showdown, but ultimately, Savannah State pulled off a narrow victory. With this win, the match headed to a deciding final set.

The entire game hinged on this set. The gym buzzed with intense energy as the crowd rallied for each team. Several pivotal plays showcased standout performances from both sides, especially Arbuckle and Halle Mitchell, who made key contributions in the push for victory.

Nevertheless, moments of struggle eventually paved the way for the Tigers to come up on top. Regardless of the loss, the Lady Panther still had notable stats that show their willingness to compete. Leading the offensive efforts, Sawyer Arbuckle notched 18 kills, followed closely by Shynique McGee with 17, and Madison Spells contributed 13. On the defensive side, Madison Spells had six blocks, followed by Halle Mitchell with three and Dahlia Williams with two.

CAU's next match will be hosted in Columbia, S.C. against Allen University at 6 p.m. on Halloween.
