Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight After Five-Set Victory Over Allen

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Clark Atlanta takes down Allen University in an epic five set match. This win continues the Lady Panthers four game win streak with the final score being 3-2.

Both teams showed strong determination from the opening serve, exchanging points and going back and forth between kills and errors. Clark was able to stay the course and keep up with Allen until the set was tied 17-17. Nevertheless, Allen pulled ahead steadily from 25-21 against Clark and won set one. Allen's scoring included multiple successful kills and assists.

As the match progressed, the Lady Panthers were able to excel in the next two sets. CAU took an early lead aided by attack errors. As the set progressed, McGee and Drayton Campbell's series of service aces and kills impacted the outcome of the set. Ultimately, CAU pulled ahead, concluding the set 25-19. In the third set, a similar play style repeated itself. Both teams went back and forth until CAU's kills built momentum. Again, Drayton-Campbell's consistent scoring led to a 25-14 win for the team. 

With two wins for the Lady Panthers, Allen University was not backing down. Even though there were multiple errors from both sides of the floor that built an intense atmosphere, the score kept fluctuating rapidly until around 17-17, showing a contested match. Allen showed their diversity in a mix of offensive and defensive plays that led CAU on a scoring drought and resulted in a 25-17 win for Allen.

Set five was the end all be all. The match began with a service error, giving the first point to the opposing team. However, McGee quickly responded with a kill, leveling the score. As the game progressed, both teams exchanged points, with standout plays. Errors crept in for both sides, which led to missed opportunities. Despite this, McGee continued to shine, racking up kills and helping her team maintain the lead. Despite a strong effort from Allen, the Lady Panthers secured the victory, demonstrating their resilience throughout the matchup.

In this standout match, Shynique McGee led the team with 19 kills, followed by Dahlia Williams with 11 and Madison Spells with 9. McGee also contributed with 2 service aces, with Makenzie Austin and Nakayla James each adding one ace. On the defensive end, Madison Spells and Marli Goodie were crucial at the net, each delivering 6 blocks, while Williams added 5 more. Allanah Drayton-Campbell dominated in setting, with a game-high 46 assists, supported by Nakayla James and Sawyer Arbuckle with 3 and 2 assists respectively.


The Panthers will return to action at home on Tuesday, October 29, at 6:00 p.m. against Savannah State University.
