Women's XC Finishes Seventh, Men Place Sixth at SIAC Championships

MACON, Ga. –  The Clark Atlanta University Men's and Women's cross-country team traveled to Macon to compete in the 2024 SIAC Cross Country Championships, held at Georgia Premier Course at Middle Georgia State University on Thursday, October 23rd.

WOMEN'S 5K RACE
The women's team finished in seventh place overall with a score of 180 points out of the thirteen teams competing.  Aliyah Jackson managed to secure a top ten spot in the 5K with a time of 20:36.53. "Going into this race I knew I didn't put all the effort I could've into the season…not very many PR's I wanted to have" Jackson admits when asked about her preparation towards this championship. "I still came here and knew I wanted a medal, and I wanted it badly, I came out the 5K in ninth place overall and with a new personal record". "My teammates were there to cheer me on, and it got my head back in the game".

Lailah Sellers was our next Panther finisher coming in at 17th place with a time of 21:24.42. "I think the team overall did a really good job, we pushed each other, that was our main thing to push each other and keep going" Sellers says, "For this meet a definite goal was mine was a keep pushing, to go harder than the last meet always, I wanted to have a strong finish across the line, and I did, and it secured my spot"

MEN'S 8K
The men's team finished in sixth place overall with a score of 147 points out of the fourteen teams competing. Elijah Hargrove secured a top ten finish in the 8K with a time of 27:00.17, in 8th place. "It feels good, I'm just happy to represent the school and I'm happy God keeps allowing me to break records and keep pushing myself to be better," says Hargrove. Ethan Dorsett is our second top panther finisher, coming in at 30:35.80. "My race strategy was to start off with a good pace, stay in the middle of the pack, because I like to speed up throughout the race…I just listen up for my teammates on the sidelines telling me when to speed up and I was able to get a new personal record, the fastest I've ran all season." Newcomer Kuan Jackson participated in today's championship despite this only being his second meet of the season, he managed to grasp a time of 31:04.95.  " I wouldn't blame my late start into the season, because I believe you can do anything you put your mind to, especially if you put God first"

A great finish to a great season for the Men's and Women's Cross Country Team
