Lady Panthers Down Fort Valley 3-1 on the Road, Drayton-Campbell Eclipses 1,000 Career Assists

Volleyball improves to 8-9 on the season

FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- In a bounce-back effort, the Clark Atlanta University Women's volleyball team took down Fort Valley State University 3-1 on Thursday evening. With the win, CAU improves to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

This is the 23rd time these two teams have faced off and CAU has won 22 times. Clark won the first set 25-22 with a winning kill by Sawyer Arbuckle. The second set started strong for both teams. As the set progressed, both teams exchanged points, with Clark Atlanta's attacks led by players like Sawyer Arbuckle. Despite the Wildcats' effort, Clark maintained a slight edge, highlighted by multiple kills from McGee and service aces from various players. CAU ultimately secured the set bringing the final score to 25-19.

Clark fell short in the third set and was determined to end the game in 4. Both teams experienced several attack errors and blocks throughout the match that affected their scoring momentum. FVSU struggled with service errors and attack errors from key players, while Clark capitalized on kills from Nakayla James and others, narrowing the score gap. The match concluded with a series of errors from FVSU, ultimately leading to Clark securing the final points with strong plays from Spells and Mitchell.

Key players had great performances today that contributed to the win. Allanah Drayton-Campbell had a season-high 48 assists tonight which officially put her over 1,000 career assists. Adding on, Madison Spells led the team with a high hitting percentage and points, while Shynique McGee and Marli Goodie also contributed significantly in kills and points. Madison Spells and Marli Goodie led in blocks with a total of 8 combined.

The Panthers will aim to keep this momentum going as they face Benedict College on Tuesday, October 22, at 6:00 PM back at Epps Gymnasium. Come out and support the team!
