Panthers Down Morehouse to Win Seventh Straight Game

Four Panthers score in double figures

ATLANTA, Ga. -- In front of a sold out crowd inside the historic L.S. Epps Gymnasium, the Clark Atlanta men's basketball team (14-3, 8-3 SIAC) extended its win streak to seven games after taking down cross-campus rival Morehouse College (12-7, 9-3 SIAC) 70-62 in the first of this year's "Battle of the AUC." Clark Atlanta landed four players in double figures, led by Shemani Fuller with 15 points and six rebounds.

On the defensive end, Kharye Cayne rejected a season-high six blocks and pulled down nine rebounds. Chris Martin and Jalen NeSmith led the way in assists after dishing out four helpers in the win.

Things started pretty evenly as the first 10 minutes saw three lead changes. Jalen Williams evened the score at 13 apiece with a three-pointer with nine minutes left to play in the first half. Both squads continued to battle back and forth until Clark Atlanta used an 8-0 run to take a 28-20 advantage at the 3:01 mark. Jalen NeSmith knocked down a jumper with 18 seconds left in the first half to send the Panthers into the locker room with a 37-23 advantage over Morehouse.

The Panthers shot a game-high 45.5% from the field in the first half.

Clark Atlanta remained in control for a majority of the second half as their lead swelled to 18 points (60-42) with 10:45 left to play in regulation. Morehouse was able to outscore Clark Atlanta 20-6 down the stretch to cut the margin to 66-62 with just under three minutes to play. Chris Martin chipped in a score followed by a pair of made free throws from Jalen NeSmith to close out the Maroon Tigers 70-62 on their home floor.

Clark Atlanta shot 39.1% from the field and from three-point range while also shooting 50% from the charity stripe. The four players in double figures were Shemani Fuller with 15 points, Andrew Stewart with 14 points, Chris Martin with 13, and Elijah Stewart with 10 on the way to the win.

The Panthers outscored the Maroon Tigers in the paint 30-20, scored more points off turnovers (16-8), and had the higher scoring bench (29-24). The game saw three lead changes and five ties.
