Elijah Stewart Scores Season-High 26 Points, Panthers Win Eighth Straight

Panthers remain undefeated in 2024

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Elijah Stewart scored a season-high 26 points to edge the Clark Atlanta men's basketball team (15-3, 9-3 SIAC) past Albany State 72-71 on Monday evening inside Epps Gymnasium. With the win, the Panthers extend their win streak to eight games and remain perfect in 2024. 

Xavier Griffith chipped in 16 points followed by Chris Martin with 10 points and five rebounds in the win. On the defensive end, the conference's leading shot-blocker Kharye Cayne rejected a game-high three blocks for the Panthers.

Clark Atlanta controlled the momentum for most of the first half as they shot 40.5% from the field in the opening frame. Elijah Stewart scored 13 of his 26 points in the first half to give Clark Atlanta a 40-25 lead heading into the intermission. 

Both teams battled hard in the second half though as Albany State stormed back from down 15 to take the lead (71-70) with just under three minutes to play in regulation. In heroic effort, Elijah Stewart cashed in a go-ahead jumper to put the Panthers back in front 72-71 with 16.7 seconds left to play. Clark Atlanta was able to hold on to win by one point and extend their win streak to eight games.

Clark Atlanta won the rebounding battle 36-34, the paint-scoring battle 46-36, and bench scoring 30-11. The Panthers shot 44.6% from the field, including a 50% shooting second half.

Clark Atlanta men's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, January 31 as they host the Fort Valley State Wildcats. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. inside Epps Gymnasium.
