CAU Sweeps Fort Valley to Open Home Slate

Halle Mitchell's 10 Kills Pushes CAU to Second-Straight Victory

ATLANTA, GA. (September 25, 2023) – Halle Mitchell (Denton, Texas) spiked a team-high 10 kills to help push the Lady Panthers to their first sweep of the season as they downed Fort Valley State 3-0 on Wednesday night inside Epps Gymnasium. With the win, Clark Atlanta improves to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 at home.

The Lady Panthers started off strong with a 6-2 lead early in set one. CAU continued to build on the lead after a Miara Bolden (Homewood, Ill.) kill that put them ahead 10-5. Clark Atlanta held the advantage for the entire opening frame and secured the 1-0 lead after two errors from the Lady Wildcats.

Shynique McGee (Atlanta, Ga.) strung together three kills in the opening minutes of set two to put CAU ahead 8-3 in the second frame. Errors proved costly for the Lady Wildcats after another put them behind 11-6 midway through set two. The Lady Panthers continued to lay it on as they finished set two on a 14-9 run to win 25-15 and take a 2-0 match advantage. 

Clark Atlanta found themselves down 3-1 early in set three before putting together a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 advantage. Both teams battled back and forth until the score was knotted at 11 apiece midway through set three. CAU closed out FVSU with a 14-7 (25-18) run to secure their first home contest sweep.

Allanah Drayton-Campbell (Duncanville, Texas) led the Lady Panthers in assists with a team-high 15 helpers on the night. Sanaa Simmons (Tallahassee, Fla.) collected nine assists on the night to add to the great setter play for CAU. Halle Mitchell led Clark Atlanta in kills with 10 total to record her second-straight game with a double-figure performance. 

On the defensive end, Dahlia Williams (Fairburn, Ga.) rejected three solo blocks followed by Makayla Murphy (Matteson, Ill.) with two solos. Shynique McGee scooped a team-high 13 digs to add to the defensive effort. 

As a team, the Lady Panthers registered an attack percentage of .215. 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE 

The Clark Atlanta womens volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday, September 12, as they host the Albany State Golden Rams in another conference clash inside Epps Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
