TALLADEGA, Ala. – In their first doubleheader of the season, the Clark Atlanta womens volleyball team split a pair of matches as they downed Wiley College 3-0 in game one and dropped the second match to Talladega College 3-0 on Thursday (Sept. 14) evening at the Talladega Tri-Match hosted by Talladega College.

GAME ONE

In the first game of Thursday's doubleheader, Clark Atlanta picked up their second sweep of the season as they took down Wiley College 3-0. Both teams started off strong as they knotted themselves at 10-10 early in set one. Wiley College used a 4-1 scoring run to take a 14-11 lead midway through the set. The Lady Panthers fought back and used a kill from Shynique McGee to even the score at 18 apiece.

Dahlia Williams (Fairburn, Ga.) spiked the final kill of the set to put the Lady Panthers ahead 1-0.

Wiley College jumped ahead 14-12 in set two before Clark Atlanta used a 5-0 run to take a 17-14 advantage. Jaelyn Williams (Houston, Texas) registered the final kill of the set to inch CAU closer to a sweep over the Wildcats.

Makenzie Austin (Milledgeville, Ga.) started set three off with back-to-back kills which helped CAU jump out to a 9-2 lead in set three. The Wildcats were able to use two attack errors to even the score at 13 apiece later in the set. Wiley College put together a 6-1 scoring run to take a commanding 19-14 lead in the third frame. CAU battled back to use a Sanaa Simmons (Tallahassee, Fla.) kill to even the score at 21-21. Makayla Murphy, Halle Mitchell (Denton, Texas), and Shynique McGee each recorded kills to secure the sweep over the Wildcats.

GAME TWO

Clark Atlanta fell short to host school Talladega College 3-0 in the second match of the night. Shynique McGee logged three kills in the first frame but the Tornadoes took the first set 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead.

McGee recorded four kills in the first half of set two to help tie the score at 15-15. The Lady Tornadoes ended the set on a 10-6 run to take a 2-0 lead. Talladega College secured the sweep with a 25-13 win in set three.

Shynique McGee led the Lady Panthers in kills with nine total. Sanaa Simmons and Allanah Drayton-Campbell (Duncanville, Ga.) each registered 10 kills on the night.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The Clark Atlanta womens volleyball team will head to the SIAC Crossover in Albany, Georgia where they will take on the Spring Hill Badgers (Sept. 22) at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, September 23 against the Lane College Dragons (9 a.m.) and the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers at 3 p.m.
