Ellis' Season-High 28 Points Powers CAU Past Edward Waters in Overtime

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | Janiah Ellis erupted for a season-high 28 points to propel the Clark Atlanta women's basketball team to a 74-68 overtime win over Edward Waters on Monday evening inside the Adams-Jenkins Complex. The Lady Panthers also placed three players in double figures on the way to the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Four Lady Panthers scored baskets in the first quarter but EWU claimed an 11-7 advantaged headed into the second frame.
  • Corriana Evans chipped in a score followed by five straight points from Trinity Jones to cut the CAU deficit to 15-14.
  • Faith Bland and Trinity Jones combined for four points to give Clark Atlanta an 18-15 lead with 6:20 left until halftime.
  • Both teams found themselves knotted at 20 apiece just two minutes later.
  • Janiah Ellis sank two free throws to close out the second quarter and tied the score at 27, headed into the locker room.
  • Corriana Evans scored CAU's first six points of the second half to open the Lady Panthers' lead to 33-27 at the 8:31 mark in the third quarter.
  • The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Tigers 18-15 in the third frame to hold a 45-42 headed into the final quarter of regulation.
  • Ellis scored a team-high nine points in the fourth quarter but both teams remained tied at 62-62 at the end of regulation.
  • Trinity Jones put in a score to open up overtime and give CAU a two-point lead.
  • The Lady Panthers won the overtime period 12-6 and secured the 74-68 win over Edward Waters.

  • Janiah Ellis led all scorers with a game and season-high 28 points and seven rebounds. Ellis shot 50 percent (5-10) from the field, 3-of-5 from three, and 15-of-18 from the charity stripe.
  • Trinity Jones contributed 16 points, six assists, and four steals in the win.
  • Corriana Evans recorded her eighth double-double of the season as she went for 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Faith Bland pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds with eight points, and five steals to add to the win.

  • Clark Atlanta won the rebound battle 53-42 while also outsourcing EWU in the paint 28-22.
