Lady Panthers Suffer a Narrow 53-51 Loss on the Road at Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. | Corriana Evans charted a game-high 20 points but the Clark Atlanta women's basketball team dropped a 53-51 heartbreaker to the Savannah State Tigers on Saturday afternoon inside Tiger Arena

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Corriana Evans laid in a two-pointer followed by a three from Hannah White to put the Tigers in an early 5-0 hole at the 7:13 mark in the first.
  • Trinity Jones and Denise Stine combined for four points to put CAU ahead 9-0 with six minutes left to play in the first frame.
  • The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Tigers 18-13 in the first to head into the second quarter with a five-point advantage.
  • Evans opened the second quarter with a three-point play to extend CAU's lead to 21-13 with 7:57 to play until halftime.
  • Janiah Ellis ended a 5-0 SSU run with a three-pointer followed by a fastbreak layup from Evans to keep the Lady Panthers in front 26-18 at the 3:42 mark.
  • Clark Atlanta held a narrow 28-24 lead over Savannah State as both teams headed into the intermission.
  • Evans and White combined for CAU's first five points of the second half to keep the Lady Panthers ahead 33-28 with 7:25 left to play in the third quarter.
  • The Lady Tigers closed out the third frame on a 13-8 run to tie the score at 41-41 heading into the final quarter.
  • Stine opened the fourth quarter with a fast break layup followed by a made free throw from Evans to give CAU a 44-41 lead with 7:15 to play in regulation.
  • SSU took a 45-44 lead at the 4:41 mark in the fourth quarter.
  • CAU used a 4-2 run to regain the lead at 48-47 with 3:18 left to play.
  • SSU closed out regulation on a 6-3 run to edge Clark Atlanta 53-51.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Corriana Evans nabbed her 14th double-figure performance of the season as she logged a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds in Saturday afternoon's matchup. She also had two blocks and three steals to add to her stat line.
  • Hannah White registered nine points and two rebounds on the day.
  • Trinity Jones and Janiah Ellis led the way in assists as they handed out five helpers apiece. 
  • Corriana Evans and Denise Stine took three steals apiece on the defensive end for the Lady Panthers.
  • Rose Smith finished with five rebounds.
  • As a team, Clark Atlanta shot 35.7 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from three, and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. 
  • The Lady Panthers capitalized on SSU's turnovers with 20 points scored off of turnovers.
