McKinley Posts Season-High 20 Points, Lady Panthers Fall to Spring Hill

Freshman Brooklyn McKinley records her first collegiate 20-point game

MOBILE, Ala. – Freshman Brooklyn McKinley logged her first collegiate 20-point performance, but the Lady Panthers fell to the Spring Hill Badgers 77-74 on Saturday afternoon inside the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. With the loss, Clark Atlanta's record moves to 3-4 and 0-1 in conference play.

Brooklyn McKinley led the charge offensively for Clark Atlanta with a game-high 20 points and five rebounds on the day. Freshman Atreonia Garner chipped in 14 points and pulled down six rebounds to notch her third-straight double-digit scoring game this season for the Lady Panthers. DeAsia Reid added 10 points of her own to round out the Lady Panthers in double figures. 

Clark Atlanta started Saturday's game off strong with Trinity Jones and Corriana Evans combining for eight of CAU's first 10 points to give the Lady Panthers a 10-8 advantage five minutes into the game. The Badgers briefly took a 13-12 lead, but Brooklyn McKinley scored 10 straight points to put CAU back in front 22-15 with 1:50 left to play in the first frame. Faith Bland knocked down a free throw to give the Lady Panthers a nine-point (25-16) advantage going into the second quarter.

Despite a pair of early buckets from Brooklyn McKinley and Denise Stine, Spring Hill cut the deficit to 29-28 with six minutes left to play in the first half. The Lady Badgers would go on to outscore the Lady Panthers 23-12 in the second quarter to head into the intermission 41-37 lead over CAU.

Clark Atlanta opened the second half poised to make a comeback after retaking the lead at 46-44 behind a jumper from Brooklyn McKinley at the 7:19 mark. Both teams traded scores until Spring Hill pulled away to take a six-point (62-56) lead into the fourth quarter. 

Spring Hill's lead grew to 10 points at the top of the fourth frame, but the undeterred Lady Panthers used a 10-2 run to bring the margin down to two points ay 70-68 with 3:34 left to play in regulation.  Despite a hard-fought battle, Spring Hill outscored Clark Atlanta 7-6 in the remaining three minutes to down the Lady Panthers 77-74.

Clark Atlanta shot 43.7 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from downtown, and 61.5 percent from the charity stripe. Despite the loss, CAU outrebounded SHC 34-29, outscored the Badgers in the paint 46-40, and scored more points off turnovers (28-9).
