Volleyball Clinches First 20-Win Season Since 2012 With a Pair of Wins on Saturday

Lady Panthers take down Benedict and Allen

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Clark Atlanta women's volleyball team secured their first 20-win season since 2012 on Saturday as they bested Benedict College 3-0 and followed it up with a 3-1 win over Allen in Columbia, South Carolina. With the wins, Clark Atlanta improves to 20-9 and 14-5 in conference play.

GAME ONE VS BENEDICT

The Lady Panthers opened Saturday's doubleheader with a sweep over the Benedict College Tigers. Madison Spells (Dickinson, Texas) and Makayla Murphy (Detroit, Mich.) closed out set one with back-to-back kills to win the first frame 25-20. Benedict found themselves with a 23-22 lead late in set two but Clark Atlanta finished on a 3-0 run to edge BC 25-23, taking a 2-0 advantage. The Lady Tigers took an early 4-0 lead before the Lady Panthers stormed back, scoring six unanswered points to take a 6-4 lead. Clark Atlanta took set three 25-20 to complete the sweep.

Shynique McGee (Atlanta, Ga.) led all players with a game-high nine kills for the Lady Panthers.

GAME TWO VS ALLEN

In the second match of Saturday's doubleheader, Clark Atlanta downed Allen University 3-1 to finish the regular season 20-9. 

Clark Atlanta held a 17-16 lead over the Yellow Jackets before using an 8-5 scoring run to pull away and win set one 25-21. Jalen Dickerson (Baltimore, Md.) picked up two kills late in set two followed by an error from Allen which gave CAU a 25-20 win in the second frame. The Yellow Jackets were able to win set three 25-23 to avoid the sweep. 

Makayla Murphy closed out set four with a kill to secure the 25-14 win and escape with a 3-1 road victory over Allen.

UP NEXT

Clark Atlanta women's volleyball will enter the 2023 SIAC Women's Volleyball Tournament as the third seed in the east division. The tournament starts on Thursday, November 9 in Jonesboro, Ga.
