Panther Shoot a Season-High 52 Percent from Three to Down Clayton State

Men's basketball improves to 6-0 on the season

ATLANTA, Ga. – Clark Atlanta's leading scorer Chris Martin notched a game-high 31 points to power the Panthers past Clayton State 87-78 on the way to a 6-0 start on Wednesday evening inside the Loch and Mason Barfield Court.

Clark Atlanta shot a season-high 53.8 percent from behind the arc to get the win over Clayton State.

Shemani Fuller extended his double-figure scoring streak to five games with his 16-point, six-rebound performance against the Lakers on Wednesday night. Andrew Stewart also chipped in 11 points to round out the three Panthers in double-digit scoring.

The Panthers found themselves in unfamiliar territory as they trailed 16-9 just eight minutes into the game. Undeterred, Clark Atlanta strung together a 7-0 run capped off by a Jalen Williams dunk to knot the game at 16-all at the 10:45 mark in the first half.

Both teams traded scores until Williams knocked down a fastbreak jumper to give the Panthers a narrow 31-30 lead with 2:56 left until halftime. Clark Atlanta closed out the first half on an 8-3 run to head into the locker room with a 39-34 advantage over Clayton State.

The Panthers picked up where they left off in the first half by putting the Lakers in a 51-38 hole just four minutes into the second half. Clayton State attempted to fight back but the Panthers seemed to have an answer for everything after extending their lead to at least 17 points four times in the second half. Andrew Stewart sunk a trio of free throws to put the Lakers away 87-78 and pushed the Panthers to their first 6-0 start in 23 years.

As a team, the Panthers shot a season-high 53.8 percent from three-point range, 49.2 percent from the field, and 78.6 percent from the charity stripe. Clark Atlanta also outscored Clayton State in the paint 42-22 in the win.

Chris Martin finished with a game-high 31 points on 8-of-12 (66%) shooting from the floor, 3-of-4 from three-point range, and 12-of-16 from the charity stripe. Jalen Williams and Jalen Nesmith each led the way in assists with four apiece while Shemani Fuller led on the boards with six rebounds.
