Panther improve to first 4-0 start since 1995-96 season

ATLANTA, Ga. – In front of a packed crowd at Epps Gymnasium, the Clark Atlanta Panthers improved to 4-0 (0-0, SIAC) on the season after taking down Fisk University 89-72 on Monday evening. The 4-0 start marks the first since the 1995-96 season.

The Panthers placed five players in double figures with Chris Martin leading the way with 19 points, five rebounds, and three steals on the way to the win. Jalen Williams caught fire from three-point range shooting 66 percent (4-6) from behind the arc with 16 points for CAU. Andrew Stewart (14), Elijah Stewart (13), and Shemani Fuller (11) round out the five Panthers in double-digit scoring.

On the defensive end, Shemani Fuller and Kharye Cayne each rejected a game-high 3 blocks.

Andrew and Elijah Stewart drained back-to-back threes to cap off a 15-0 run that put Clark Atlanta in front 25-8 at the 10-minute mark in the first half. However, the Bulldogs of Fisk were able to hold the Panthers to just eight points in the final 10 minutes to close the margin to 33-29 heading into the locker room.

Chris Martin opened the second half with a pair of quick scores but Fisk outscored CAU 20-12 in the first seven minutes to take a 49-45 advantage with 13:22 left to play in the final frame.

Undeterred, Andrew Stewart scored five straight points to put the Panthers back in front 50-49 less than a minute later. Jalen Williams drained four threes in the span of six minutes followed by an alley-oop dunk off a Chris Martin assist to extend Clark Atlanta's lead to 22 points (80-58) with 4:32 left to play in regulation. Martin scored four of CAU's final nine points to put the Bulldogs away 89-72 on the way to a 4-0 start.

As a team, Clark Atlanta shot 49 percent from the floor, 37 percent from three, and 64 percent from the charity stripe.
