ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta women's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 SIAC) split a pair of games this past weekend as they hosted the SIAC/CIAA Challenge. The Lady Panthers opened the challenge with a 63-58 win over Johnson C. Smith on Friday night (Nov. 17) followed by a 75-68 loss to Elizabeth City State on Saturday afternoon.
GAME ONE
The Lady Panthers placed a pair in double figures with Corianna Evans and Trinity Jones each posting 12 points in the victory. Evans also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Jones scored 10 points in the first frame to give CAU an 18-13 advantage heading into the second quarter. Clark Atlanta outscored JCSU 19-8 in the second quarter to mount a 37-23 lead going into the intermission. The Golden Bulls found new life in the second half as they held the Lady Panthers to just eight third-quarter points to cut the deficit to five (45-40) going into the fourth quarter.
Janiah Ellis scored six points in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Panthers outlast Johnson C. Smith 63-58 and secured their first 3-0 start since 2002.
Clark Atlanta shot 35% from the floor, 36% from three, and 75% from the charity stripe. The Lady Panthers also outrebounded the Golden Bulls 39-33 in Friday night's win.
GAME TWO
Corianna Evans led all scorers with a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds but the Lady Vikings outlasted the Lady Panthers 75-68 on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity Jones and Atreonia Garner each chipped in 10 points in the loss.
