PREVIEW: Women's Basketball hosts Johnson C. Smith and Elizabeth City State

CAU hosts CIAA/SIAC Challenge

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University women's basketball team opens the home slate this weekend (Nov. 17) as they host the CIAA/SIAC Challenge featuring Albany State (SIAC), Elizabeth City State (CIAA), and Johnson C. Smith (CIAA)

Clark Atlanta started the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2003-04 season after taking down Florida Tech (57-48) and Saint Leo (76-75) on opening weekend (Nov. 10-11). 

The Lady Panthers will take on Johnson C. Smith on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. start time against Elizabeth City State on Saturday (Nov. 18).

Scouting the Panthers  
  • Preseason First Team All-Conference selection Corianna Evans leads the Lady Panthers in scoring with an average of 17.0 ppg through two games. Evans also boasts an 11-game double-figure scoring streak dating back to last season.
  • Hannah White is tied with Evans for the lead in assists with 2.0 apg early in the season.
  • Freshman Atreonia Garner leads CAU on the boards with an average of six rebounds per contest. 
  • The Lady Panthers average 66.5 points per game.
  • As a team, Clark Atlanta is 34% from the field, 28% from behind the arc, and 60% from the foul line through two games. 
  • Defensively, the Lady Panthers average 8.5 steals per game with a plus-nine (13-22) turnover margin. 
Scouting Johnson C. Smith 
  • The Golden Bulls enter this weekend's crossover with an 0-1 record after falling to Wingate 60-48 in their season opener (Nov. 15). 
  • JCSU shoots 32% from the field, 29% from downtown, and 70% from the charity stripe.
  • Johnson C. Smith sits at a minus-five turnover margin after one game.
Scouting Elizabeth City State
  • The Lady Vikings are 0-2 to start the season after dropping contests to West Chester (Penn.) 77-69 and Bloomsburg University 80-72. 
  • ECSU is shooting 42% from the floor, 35% from three-point range, and 67% from the free-throw line.
History
  • Friday's meeting will be the fifth meeting all-time between Clark Atlanta and Johnson C. Smith dating back to 2017. CAU is 1-3 against JCSU with the Lady Panthers getting their first win (86-77) in the series in the 2022 season opener
  • Saturday's matchup will also be the fifth meeting all-time between CAU and ECSU dating back to 2013. The Lady Vikings won the last meeting 56-52 in last year's CIAA/SIAC Crossover.
