Panthers Take Down West Florida and Valdosta State to Open the Regular Season

Chris Martin drops career-high 41 points in season-opening win over West Florida

ATLANTA, Ga. – In a thrilling two-game showing, the Clark Atlanta men's basketball team opened the season with a pair of wins over West Florida (74-57) and Valdosta State (77-64) as they hosted the GSC/SIAC Regional Challenge. With the wins, Clark Atlanta starts the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2017 season.

GAME ONE

Chris Martin exploded for a career-high 41 points to lead the Panthers to a 74-57 blowout win over West Florida in game one of the Regional Challenge. The Panthers shot 40.8% from the field and 37.5% from downtown on the way to the win. CAU outscored UWF in the paint 26-16 and won the points off turnover battle 17-15. 

GAME TWO

Dez'Mond Perkins led the scoring charge in game two for Clark Atlanta with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and seven rebounds against Valdosta State. Jalen Williams added 16 points on 50% (6-12) shooting from the field. Shemani Fuller and Elijah Stewart both registered 14 points to round out the Panthers scoring in double figures. 

On the defensive end, Shemani Fuller also rejected a team-high three blocks. 

As a team, Clark Atlanta shot game-highs from the field (49.2%), three-point range (26.3%), and from the charity stripe (71.4%). The Panthers also never trailed in Saturday's win over Valdosta State.

Clark Atlanta men's basketball returns to action on Friday (Nov. 17) as they head to Montevallo, Alabama to take on the University of Montevallo Falcons at 7 p.m.
