Lady Panthers Split a Pair of Conference Road Matches

Clark Atlanta takes down Savannah State, Falls to Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In their first matches back in action after a week, the Clark Atlanta University women's volleyball team split a pair of conference road matches, starting with a 3-2 win over Savannah State on Friday and a 3-1 loss to Edward Waters on Saturday afternoon. 

GAME ONE VS SAVANNAH STATE

The Lady Panthers started the weekend with a 3-2 win over the Lady Tigers. Savannah State took the first set 25-19 behind a 3-2 run to end the first frame. The Lady Tigers went ahead 2-0 after taking the second set 25-19 once again. 

Clark Atlanta stormed back to win three straight sets and stun the Lady Tigers on their home floor in Tiger Arena.

Shynique McGee (Atlanta, Ga.) led the comeback with 18 kills and 19 digs for her ninth double-double performance of the season. Madison Spells (Dickinson, Texas) spiked 12 kills with a .258 attacking percentage in the win. Makayla Murphy (Detroit, Mich.) recorded 10 kills and six block assists to add to the defensive effort.

Allanah Drayton-Campbell (Duncanville, Texas) remains CAU's top facilitator, setting a team-high 30 assists for the Lady Panthers. 

GAME TWO VS EDWARD WATERS

Edward Waters took down Clark Atlanta 3-1 in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday. The Lady Tigers took set one 25-10, followed by a 25-21 win in set two to take a 2-0 lead. Clark Atlanta forced a fourth set by taking the third frame 25-19 to avoid a sweep. Ultimately, the Lady Tigers outlasted CAU 3-1 to secure the home court win. 

McGee once again led the Lady Panthers in kills with 15 on the day to extend her double-digit kill streak to 16 games. Halle Mitchell (Denton, Texas) collected 14 kills for an attacking percentage of .357.

Clark Atlanta remains on the road as they head to Augusta, Georgia to take on Paine College on Tuesday (Oct. 31) at 6 p.m.
