Stingy Defensive Performance Not Enough as Panthers Fall to Tuskegee

Dezmond Jones posts season-high 12 tackle performance

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Dezmond Jones (Thomasville, Ga.) put together a stellar defensive performance with a season-high 12 total tackles at the linebacker spot but the Panthers were outlasted by the Golden Tigers 14-3 on Saturday afternoon inside Abbot Memorial Stadium.

Quarterback Heath Williams Jr. (Clarksville, Tenn.) went 7-for-19 with 64 yards and three interceptions in Saturday's outing. Running back Josef Douglas (Columbus, Ga.) led the rushing attack for Clark Atlanta with 74 yards on 11 attempts.

On the defensive end, junior linebacker Dezmond Jones led all tacklers with a game-high 12 tackles with three of those for a loss.

Clark Atlanta's defense held stout for the majority of Saturday's matchup, holding the Golden Tigers to zero points in the first half. Fernando Lobo (Jonesboro, Ga.) put the Panthers on the board first with a 30-yard field goal at the 8:55 mark in the first half to give CAU a 3-0 lead headed into halftime.

Both teams held each other scoreless in the second half until Tuskegee scored their first touchdown of the day with 7:32 left to play in regulation. The Golden Tigers found the endzone again less than four minutes later to extend their advantage to 14-3 with 4:53 left to play.

Tuskegee was able to hold Clark Atlanta's offense to no touchdowns to escape with a 14-3 win on their home field.
