Panthers Drop Final Regular Season Game to Morehouse

Panthers finish the season 0-10

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta University Panthers football team dropped its final game of the season to Atlanta University Center rival Morehouse College 35-21 on Saturday afternoon inside Panther Stadium. 

Daquan Nelson got the start under center for Clark Atlanta and went 12-for-25 with 148 yards and one touchdown on the day. 

Josef Douglas led the rushing attack for the Panthers with 63 yards on five attempts and two touchdowns. 

Devion Newson led all receivers with a game-high five catches for 61 yards and one touchdown for Clark Atlanta. 

Morehouse College struck first in Saturday's matchup, putting Clark Atlanta in a 14-0 hole headed into the second quarter. The Panthers found life at the top of the second quarter as Daquan Nelson found Devion Newson for a 12-yard touchdown completion to put CAU on the board. The point-after attempt was no good which left Clark Atlanta down one score (14-6). 

The Maroon Tigers found the endzone for a third time with five minutes left in the first half to hold a 21-6 advantage going into the intermission.

Both teams exchanged a touchdown in the third frame, sending Morehouse into the fourth quarter with a 28-14 lead over Clark Atlanta. Morehouse opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown to extend their advantage to 35-14. 

Josef Douglas notched his second touchdown of the day on a four-yard scamper to cut the deficit to 35-21 with 13 minutes left to play in regulation. Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the fourth quarter to give Morehouse a 35-21 victory over Clark Atlanta.
