Panthers Volleyball Downs Fort Valley on the Road

Panthers win streak extended to three games

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Clark Atlanta women's volleyball team tied last season's win total by downing Fort Valley State 3-1 on Wednesday night inside the HPE Complex. With the win, Clark Atlanta improves to 13-7 and 10-3 in conference play. 

Shynique McGee (Atlanta, Ga.) logged her 11th straight game with double-figure kills after charting a team-high 12 kills and nine digs in the win. Allanah Drayton-Campbell (Duncanville, Texas) hoisted a team-high 21 assists to eclipse 330 helpers on the year. Madison Spells (Dickinson, Texas) led the Lady Panthers in attacking percentage (.583) with eight kills on 12 attempts.

On the defensive end, Nakayla James (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) scooped a team-high 18 digs in the libero position. 

The Lady Panthers found themselves knotted at 14-all midway through set one before using a 3-0 run to take a 17-14 lead. Madison Spells (Dickinson, Texas) capped off set one with a kill to give CAU a 1-0 advantage.

Makayla Murphy (Detroit, Mich.) spiked two kills to give the Lady Panthers a 12-9 lead midway through the second frame. Clark Atlanta was able to use a few errors from FVSU to jump in front 16-11 in set two. Fort Valley fought back to cut the lead to 20-19, but CAU finished the set on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 2-0 lead headed into the third set. 

Despite a 45% attacking percentage in the set, Fort Valley won set three 25-23 to cut the CAU's lead to 2-1 going into the fourth frame. 

The Lady Panthers looked poised to secure the win after jumping out to a 12-2 lead over the Wildcats in set four. Fort Valley was able to fight back to get within three as Clark Atlanta held an 18-15 lead in the fourth frame. Shynique McGee secured the 25-17 win in set four with a service ace to escape with a 3-1 road win over the Lady Wildcats.
