McGee Posts Season-High 28 Kills, Panthers Down Savannah State

Volleyball extends win streak to four games

ATLANTA, Ga. – Shynique McGee (Atlanta, Ga.) erupted for a 28-kill performance to extend Clark Atlanta's win streak to four games after taking down Savannah State, 3-2, on Friday night inside Epps Gymnasium. 

Win the win, Clark Atlanta improves to 14-7 overall (11-3 SIAC), eclipsing last season's win total of 13 games. 

Shynique McGee spiked a season-high and game-high 28 kills with 12 digs to add to her outstanding stat line. On the defensive end, freshman libero Nakayla James (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) logged a game-high 26 digs. Junior setter Allanah Drayton-Campbell (Duncanville, Texas) led CAU in assists with 29, just one shy of her season-high (30).

Clark Atlanta held the lead for most of set one and used a 4-0 scoring run to jump in front 21-15 in the first frame. The Lady Panthers took set one 25-18 to take a 1-0 advantage heading into the second frame.

The Lady Tigers were able to fight back to tie the match score at one apiece going into the third set. Clark Atlanta responded with a nine-point victory (25-16) in set three to extend their advantage to 2-1. 

Savannah State came back to tie the match score at two-all to force a fifth set.

McGee swatted her 28th kill of the night to close out the deciding set with a 15-12 win to down the Lady Tigers, 3-2, to improve to 11-3 in conference play.

Clark Atlanta returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, October 14, as they host Edward Waters at 1 p.m. inside Epps Gymnasium.
