Men's Basketball Prevails at Home 59-57 over FVSU

ATLANTA, Ga. | Demetrius Headspeth and Dez'Mond Perkins both scored in double-figures to help the Clark Atlanta men's basketball team edge the Fort Valley State Wildcats 59-57 on Saturday afternoon inside Epps Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • FVSU opened the game with a 7-2 lead after Wyatt Horace III put the Panthers on the board at the 17:37 mark in the first half.
  • G'Warren Douglas made a tip-in layup followed by four points from Demetrius Headspeth to cut the deficit to 12-8 with 12:52 left to play in half-one.
  • Justin Longstreet and Jalen Williams combined for five points but FVSU's lead had grown to 22-13 at the 8:19 mark.
  • Jalen Williams and Demetrius Headspeth scored five points apiece in the first half but the Panthers found themselves down 33-26 going into the intermission.
  • Longstreet opened the second half with five-straight points to cut the margin to two points (33-31).
  • FVSU added a score but Dez'Mond Perkins responded with three points to bring the Panthers within one with 17:01 to play in regulation.
  • With 10:19 left in the second half, CAU found themselves still within striking distance at 42-40.
  • The Wildcats' advantage grew to 49-44 with under seven minutes left.
  • Headspeth scored five straight to tie the score at 49 apiece just two minutes later.
  • Douglas chipped in three more points to give CAU its first lead of the day at 52-49.
  • Headspeth knocked down a late free throw to help the Panthers hang on and edge the Wildcats 59-57.
