Strong Second Half Pushes the Lady Panthers Past FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Ga. | Hannah White registered a game-high 19 points and six rebounds to help power the Clark Atlanta women's basketball team to their third-straight win after taking down Fort Valley State 46-38 on Wednesday evening (Jan. 25) inside HPE Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Hannah White got Clark Atlanta on the board less than 10 seconds into the game to give CAU a 2-0 lead early.
  • The Lady Wildcats responded to the early score with a 15-0 run to jump in front of CAU 15-2 at the three-minute mark in the first frame.
  • Corianna Evans ended FVSU's run with a fastbreak layup followed by a free throw from Janiah Ellis to cut CAU's deficit to 12 points (17-5) heading into the second quarter.
  • White and Evans combined for the Lady Panthers' first four points of the second quarter to close the margin to eight (17-9) with 7:34 left until intermission.
  • Denise Stine chipped in a score almost two minutes later to bring CAU within six.
  • FVSU extended its advantage to nine points with just over a minute left to play in the second period.
  • White sunk two free throws with 23 seconds remaining in the first half but FVSU drained a jumper to close out the half with a 23-14 lead.
  • The Lady Wildcats extended the advantage to 12 points to open the third quarter.
  • White outscored FVSU 7-2 over a two-minute span to cut the deficit to 28-21 midway through the third.
  • Ellis and Stine scored two apiece to close the margin to three (28-25) just two minutes later.
  • Both teams traded baskets until CAU found themselves down 30-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Denise Stine scored her sixth point of the day followed by a three-pointer from Janiah Ellis to help the Lady Panthers regain the lead at 32-30.
  • CAU opened the fourth quarter with a 14-0 run to take an 11-point lead with five minutes left to play in regulation.
  • Clark Atlanta added six more points to hold on and win 46-38 and notch their third-straight win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Hannah White led all scorers with a game-high 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals in the win. 
  • Janiah Ellis was one of two Lady Panthers in double-figures with her 10-point, four-rebound performance.
  • Trinity Jones tied with White for a team-high six rebounds and two points to add to the win.
  • Deyanna McKinney and Ellis registered two assists apiece to help on the offensive end.
  • Clark Atlanta's reserves outscored Fort Valley's 19-8.
  • Despite being outscored 17-5 in the first quarter, Clark Atlanta held FVSU to single-digit scoring in the final three quarters.
