Williams Game-High 21 Points Not Enough as CAU Falls to FVSU

FORT VALLEY, Ga. | Jalen Williams led all scorers with a game-high 21 points but the Panthers came up short with a narrow 58-54 loss to the Fort Valley State Wildcats on Wednesday night inside HPE Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Wildcats jumped out to a 9-2 lead with four minutes gone off the clock in the first half. 
  • At the 10-minute mark, FVSU held a 17-4 advantage over CAU.
  • CAU responded with a 13-2 run to cut the deficit to 19-17 with just under four to play in the first half.
  • Jalen Williams finished the first half with 16 points to send Clark Atlanta into the intermission down 28-24.
  • FVSU extended their lead back to double-digits (34-24) with 17:53 left in the second half.
  • Gwarren Douglas notched a score followed by Justin Longstreet converting on a three-point play to bring CAU back within four points.
  • The Wildcats were able to add two more scores to go back up by eight points. 
  • Williams drained a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to three (41-38) with 9:46 left to play in regulation.
  • Both teams traded baskets back and forth until Clark Atlanta found themselves down 55-54 with 41 seconds left to play.
  • FVSU's Jamal Reynolds knocked down a three-pointer with 14 seconds left on the clock to give FVSU a narrow 58-54 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Jalen Williams registered a game-high 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Williams scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half.
  • Justin Longstreet logged 18 points, three rebounds, and one steal on the night.
  • On the defensive end, Gwarren Douglas recorded two blocks and seven points. 
  • As a team, Clark Atlanta shot 38.3 percent from the floor, 31.8 percent from three-point land, and 84.6 percent from the charity stripe.
  • CAU's bench outscored the FVSU's reserves 25-15.
