ATLANTA, GA-- It was a big win for the Lady Panthers (2-5, 1-1 SIAC) who are looking to get a head start at the beginning of conference play. After a four-quarter battle, the Lady Panthers pulled out a 68-64 win against the Spring Hill Badgers.
The game got a slow start for both teams, ending the first quarter 10-12. The lady panthers began to gain momentum during the second quarter finishing the half 25-16.
Denise Stine dominated the half putting up eight points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. She was aided by
Faith Bland, who scored 6 points with 5 rebounds,
Mariah Baltierra with five points, and Corianna Evans scored four.
The Lady Badgers came back to answer Clark Atlanta in the second half, in hopes to close the gap and take the lead. Samantha Hardison put up six points in the first four minutes, bringing the score to 34-38. But the Panthers were not letting up. Evans put up six on the board for the Panthers finishing 46-51.
It was neck and neck the fourth quarter. The Lady Badgers took the lead in the first two minutes of the quarter with a fast break and finish by Hardison. With help of Emyria Harris, Nyaneit Puok, and Jordan Bowden, the Lady Badgers grew a six-point lead on the Lady Panthers with 5 minutes left in the game. Baltierra score a three at the two-minute mark, securing the lead 64-62. The Panthers continued to fight till the end with Deyanna Mickinney scoring two and Stine with a three-pointer securing the win for the Lady Panthers.
Stine finished the game with 17 points, five rebounds, four assist, and three steals. Following behind her is Evans with 13 points, four rebounds, and three blocks. The Lady Panthers outscored the Badgers in point off turnovers (16-10), second chance points (15-3), and bench points (48-26). This will be the Lady Panthers first win at home and in conference.
The Lady Panthers will battle it out again Monday at 6pm against the Tuskegee Tigers in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
