ATLANTA, Ga. (October 4, 2022) – Shynique McGee (Clark Atlanta) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Trenity Pender (Clark Atlanta) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.
Audi Hicks (Kentucky State) was also tabbed Setter of the Week alongside Maliyah Spencer (Allen) who earned Newcomer of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Shynique McGee, Clark Atlanta
Outside Hitter | Sophomore | Atlanta, Ga.
Shynique McGee led the Panthers to victory against Central State with a recorded double-double earning 14 kills (.235) and 16 digs. McGee led the Panthers with eight kills (.160), eight digs and two aces in a close loss to Kentucky State.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Trenity Pender, Clark Atlanta
Libero | Freshman | Fort Worth, TX
Freshman libero, Trenity Pender, tallied 12 digs against Central State and 18 digs against Kentucky State.
SETTER OF THE WEEK – Audi Hicks, Kentucky State
Setter | Sophomore | Carmel, IN
Hicks had a season high of 35 assists in a match against Clark Atlanta, earning more assists than their conference opponent. The Indiana native had another strong performance in the first match against Fort Valley State earning 24 of KSU's 26 assists and out earning the Wildcat's team assists of 19. Hicks' season high performances led to Kentucky State's sweep of two league opponents Fort Valley State and Clark Atlanta.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Maliyah Spencer, Allen
Outside Hitter | Freshman | Surprise, Arizona
The freshman outside hitter, Maliyah Spencer led Allen with 19 kills (.385), seven digs, and two blocks in the close four-set loss to Benedict.
