A late Lane run allowed the Dragons to pull away as they defeated Clark Atlanta 67-57 in Jackson, Tenn., Monday.
Clark Atlanta (3-5, 0-1 SIAC) had erased a 19-point, fourth-quarter lead with a furious 26-6 run that culminated with
Jalen Williams' 3-pointer that gave CAU a 48-47 lead with 8:01 remaining.
But then Lane went on their own run, outscoring CAU 15-7 over the next five minutes to regain the lead at 62-55 and maintain that lead for the win.
It was a tough shooting night for the Panthers as they hit only 34 percent of their shots Monday, including only nine field goals in the first half.
Williams led CAU with 18 points, all of them in the second half including five 3-pointers. He also had seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Chris Martin had 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while
Rodney Simon contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and a block.
Lane was led by Tomonique Marion who had 12 points and 15 rebounds, along with two blocks and three steals. Kaylen Haywood had 16 points for the Dragons.
Thursday, the Panthers are back home when they host Tuskegee at 8 p.m. They close out the fall semester when they play Spring Hill on Saturday at 4 p.m.
