Chris Martin had his third 20-plus point game, but Clark Atlanta was edged late by Tuskegee, 79-72 at L.S. Epps Gymnasium Thursday.
In their first home game since Nov. 29, Clark Atlanta (3-6, 0-1 SIAC) traded the lead with Tuskegee (6-6, 3-1 SIAC) in a close first half and leading at halftime 34-29.
CAU led late, 63-61 after a
Jalen Williams 3-pointer with 3:30 remaining. Tuskegee's Mike Evans countered with a 3-pointer that put the Golden Tigers back in front 64-63. A CAU turnover was then followed by Devin Booker's basket that extended Tuskegee's lead to three.
Martin's layup with 3:03 left cut that lead to one at 64-65. But that turned out to be the final field goal for the Panthers. Tuskegee outscored CAU 13-7 the rest of the way to get the win.
Tuskegee was able to erase a sluggish shooting first half when they hit just 29 percent of their shots to hit 51 percent of their baskets with five 3-pointers in the second half.
Martin had a game-high 26 points, along with five rebounds, six assists and two steals. Â Williams was the only other Panther with double-digit points Thursday, with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Justin Longstreet added seven points, while
Javonte Sterling had six rebounds and three points.
Steve Dulley led Tuskegee with 21 points, while Booker finished with 15 points. Martez Jones had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Clark Atlanta will close out the fall semester Saturday afternoon when they host Spring Hill at 4 p.m., immediately following the women's 2 p.m. game at Epps Gymnasium.
