Lady Panthers Edged 85-83 At Clayton State

A late Clark Atlanta rally fell just short as the Lady Panthers lost to Clayton State 85-83 Tuesday night in Morrow, Ga.

The Lady Panthers (2-7, 2-0 SIAC) had fallen behind by 22 points late in the third quarter after Timi'a Swanson's free throws gave Clayton State (5-2) a 72-50 lead.

But CAU outscored Clayton State 31-12 from that point, trailing only 84-81 after Reagan Jackson's 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the game.  Jackson fouled the Lakers' Diamond Swift on the next possession, with Swift hitting one of two free throws to make it 85-81.  Jackson then missed a 3-pointer with four seconds left but hit a layup as the buzzer ended the game.

Clayton State led the entire game, with CAU hitting just 36 percent of their shots in the first half while CSU was hit 56 percent of their field goals.  Clayton State outscored CAU 54-36 in the paint and outrebounded the Lady Panthers 48-31.

Jackson led CAU with 26 points, while also making five assists and four steals along with two rebounds. Maegan Barkley had 13 points, with Denise Stine adding 12 points, four rebounds and four steals, and Corriana Evans contributing 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block.

Clayton State's leading rebounder and scorer Audrey McElhaney paced the Lakers with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Jadah Waite added 17 points.  Swift had ten rebounds, eight assists, four steals and three points.

The Lady Panthers return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Thursday when they host Miles College at 6 p.m.
