Clark Atlanta Falls Late to Miles 66-62

Clark Atlanta led by one with 39 seconds remaining but couldn't hold on as they fell to undefeated Miles 66-62 at L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 9.

Clark Atlanta (2-8, 2-0 SIAC) had erased an eight-point, fourth quarter advantage when Kaia Barnett's basket with 39 seconds left capped a 17-8 CAU run over nearly eight minutes of the fourth quarter and made it 62-61.

Camyrn London then countered with a 3-point basket eight seconds later to put Miles (7-0, 2-0 SIAC) back up 64-62.  Maegan Barkley and Reagan Jackson weren't able to connect on baskets afterwards, with London hitting free throws for the final deficit.

CAU forced 28 turnovers that they turned into 27 points but were outrebounded 56-48 by Miles.  The Lady Panthers only hit 32 percent of their shots and didn't hit any 3-pointers for the first time this year.

It also ends a streak of 20 consecutive games that the Lady Panthers have scored at least one 3-point basket.  The last time Clark Atlanta went without hitting one 3-pointer was on Jan. 11, 2020 when the Lady Panthers went 0-16 from the 3-point arc 76-68 overtime loss to Fort Valley State in Epps Gymnasium during the 2019-20 season.  Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, CAU didn't play during the 2020-21 season.

Thursday, Jackson led CAU with 19 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and making one assist.  Denise Stine had 14 points, five rebounds and eight steals.  Corriana Evans added ten points, nine rebounds, three steals and a block. Barnett finished with eight points, eight rebounds and a steal.

London led Miles with 15 points, while Breaah McGrady had 13 points and Jakera Ellerbee finished with 12 points.  Imani Williams grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Lady Panthers now head out on the road on Monday, Dec. 13 where they take on Lane, a team they fell to 71-58 on Dec. 4.
