Lady Panthers Win Second Straight, Defeating Kentucky State 68-61

Maegan Barkley's 15 points led four double-digit scorers as Clark Atlanta defeated Kentucky State 68-61 Monday in L.S. Epps Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers (2-5) earned their second consecutive win by forcing 27 turnovers, leading to 20 points, as they didn't trail at all in the game.

Kentucky State (3-2) only managed to tie the Lady Panthers once – in the game's opening minutes when Hannah Henderson's layup came right after Corriana Evans' jumper just after the game started.
CAU then outscored KSU 20-7, culminated by Barkley's free throw made it 22-9 with 43 seconds left in the first quarter.

CAU held a double-digit lead through most of the second quarter, going up 36-26 at halftime after Evans hit a free throw just before halftime.

The third quarter say the Thorobreds whittle the Lady Panthers' lead to seven at 53-46 as they headed into the final frame.  KSU outscored the Lady Panthers 20-17 in the quarter in cutting the lead.

That lead closed to one after KSU's Laurie Thomas hit a layup with 7:27 left in the game that made it 53-52. Evans countered with a three-point play after being fouled on a jumper and hitting a free throw.. Then off a Denise Stine steal, Barkley nailed a 3-pointer that put the Lady Panthers up by seven, 59-52 with 5:56 remaining.

The Thorobreds fought back, cutting the lead 59-57 a little over two minutes later.  Reagan Jackson then hit three big baskets down the stretch that helped CAU pull away for the victory.

Barkley had 15 points – including three 3-pointers - four rebounds and a steal.  Jackson finished with 14 points, three steals, three rebounds and eight assists.  Evans had 11 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals, while Alexis Mann added 11 points and two steals. Stine finished with nine points, six steals and three rebounds.  Autum Morings had six points and six rebounds.

Thomas led Kentucky State with a game-high 20 points and ten rebounds.

Clark Atlanta's win follows their 78-64 victory over Central State on Saturday, a game in which Evans had 20 points and eight rebounds, Barkley had 18 points, Morings added 17 points and seven boards, and Jackson 11 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

The Lady Panthers are back on the floor of Epps Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Lane College at 2 p.m.
