Chris Martin's 29 points helped Clark Atlanta get back on the winning track as they defeated Kentucky State 92-79 in L.S. Epps Gymnasium Monday.
Clark Atlanta (3-4) had dropped their previous two games. But behind Martin's third 20-plus point game in five games this season, CAU led Kentucky State (3-2) the entire game.
CAU jumped out fast, leading by 14 points after
Shannon Smith's jumper made it 20-6 just six minutes into the game. Ten minutes later, Kentucky State managed to pull to within four points at 32-28 after Joss Cross 3-pointer.
Martin then went to work, scoring 17 of CAU's last 21 points of the half. Martin hit four field goals, two of them 3-pointers, and all seven of his free throws to help CAU work their lead back up to ten points at halftime.
Kentucky State managed to cut the lead to seven points – 54-47 – after Querrion Gadson's free throw with 15:36 remaining. But two Martin free throws and two Smith 3-pointers push the Panther lead back up to 13 points just over a minute later. Clark Atlanta led by as many as 23 points in the second half as they grabbed the win.
Clark Atlanta hit nearly 48 percent of their shots while holding Kentucky State to 32.8 percent shooting on the night. The Panthers also dominated in the paint, winning that battle 44-24. In their three wins this season, CAU has scored at least 92 points in each game.
Martin had nine rebounds to go with his 29 points, along with three assists and two steals.
Jalen Williams finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Smith added 12 points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds.
Kye Jeremiah had ten points, four rebounds and four assists.
Shamon Mosley had 25 points for Kentucky State while Montrell Jacobs added 17.
The Panthers are off until Dec. 13 when they visit Lane College. They return to Epps Gymnasium on Thursday, Dec. 16 when they host Tuskegee at 8 p.m.
