The Clark Atlanta University women's tennis team started off the season by avenging one of their few losses last season, defeating Georgia Southwestern State University 6-1 Saturday at CAU Tennis Courts.
The Lady Panthers, the defending Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, finished 16-4 last season, but one of those losses was 6-1 loss to Georgia Southwestern.
But Saturday, the Lady Panthers jumped out fast as they grabbed three doubles wins.
Vanessa Eusebio and
Alexis Fletcher took a thrilling 7-6 victory, while
Akilah Parker and
Shani Idlette won their match 6-1.
Nicola Ramdyhan and
Miyanda Wynn won their match 6-3.
In singles, Eusebio won her match 6-2, 6-0, while Parker won 6-1, 6-0. Idlette was a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 winner, Fletcher won her match 6-1, 6-1, and
Saran Lloyd won her match 7-5, 6-4.
Ramdyhan lost a close match 7-5, 3-6, 11-9.
The Lady Panthers now head into SIAC play when they visit Tuskegee Saturday, Feb. 8 at noon (CST). They return to CAU on Wednesday, Feb. 12 when the Lady Panthers host the University of West Georgia.
