The Clark Atlanta Lady Panthers couldn't overcome a slow shooting night as they fell to Paine 62-46 Monday at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
The Lady Panthers (6-15, 4-8 SIAC) lost their third straight game, and fifth in the last six outings. Paine goes to 7-11, 6-5 in conference play.
Monday Clark Atlanta only hit two baskets in the first quarter and three in the second quarter. But two
Maegan Barkley free throws early in the second quarter had CAU tied with Paine at 16-16. While CAU only had three more baskets before halftime, Paine outscored the Lady Panthers 15-6 to take a 31-22 halftime lead.
Defensively, the Lady Panthers were able to hold Paine to only seven points in the third quarter.
Autum Morings hit two free throws to cap a 14-5 CAU run to tie the game at 36-36 with 42 seconds left in the third quarter.
Naomi Holloway's layup with 7:43 remaining kept Clark Atlanta close as CAU trailed 42-38. But that is as close as the Lady Panthers would get the rest of the way as Paine got the lead up to as many as 17 points. CAU was only able to score seven points over the last seven minutes of the game.
Clark Atlanta's 46-point output matched their lowest scoring day of the season. They were also held to 46 points in a 75-46 loss to Division I Jacksonville State in early December. The Lady Panthers only hit 25 percent of their shots Monday against Paine.
Holloway led Clark Atlanta with 13 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. Morings finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while
Reyana Miller had seven points, four rebounds and two assists and Barkley added seven points and two boards.
Courtney Hall had seven rebounds, two points and two assists.
Victoria Jackson had 14 points to lead Paine, while Kezia Holmes added 13 points.
The two teams will play their next game against each other on Saturday, Feb. 8
th at Paine. The Lady Panthers then return to L.S. Epps Gymnasium on Monday, Feb. 10 when they host Benedict at 6 p.m.
