CAU Falls to First-Place Benedict 83-64

Three Lady Panthers scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Clark Atlanta fell to Benedict 83-64 Saturday in Columbia, S.C.

Clark Atlanta (6-14, 4-7 SIAC) dropped their second straight game while Benedict, the first-place team in the SIAC East Division and fourth-ranked team in the NCAAA South Region, improved to 19-2 in winning their 14th game in a row.   They are 10-1 in the SIAC.

The Lady Panthers kept things close early, taking their first lead with five minutes left before halftime when Maegan Barkley hit a layup to make it 23-23.   CAU led by as many as eight points after Brianna McGee hit a 3-pointer to put the Lady Panthers up 34-26 with just less than a minute left before halftime.   Over the next 40 seconds Benedict was able to cut the lead to two, 34-32, at halftime.

Benedict opened the second half by scoring eight of the next ten points to take over the lead and go up by six points.  CAU stayed in it, pulling to withing two after a McGee layup make it 42-40 with 6:18 left in the third quarter.  But over the next six minutes, Benedict outscored CAU 16-4 to take a 56-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

An 11-4 run by Benedict over the first three minutes of the fourth quarter allowed the Tigers to push the lead up to 17 points and take control of the game and earn the win.

After holding Benedict to just ten baskets and three 3-pointers in the first half, CAU wasn't able to hold the SIAC's second highest scoring team back as Benedict 21 baskets and hit five-of-eight 3-pointers in the second half.

Naomi Holloway led CAU with 16 points, hitting 10-of-12 free throws.  Autum Morings had 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Barkley finished with 11 points as she hit 3-of-4 of her 3-point shots.

Wykira Johnson led Benedict with 24 points, while Shanassia White had 11 points and 15 rebounds.
