Clark Atlanta couldn't hold off Benedict's hot-shooting second half as the Panthers fell at Benedict 83-70 Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
The loss was the fourth in a row for Clark Atlanta (7-13, 7-5 SIAC) while Benedict (9-12, 5-6 SIAC) earned their second win in the past three games.
Saturday, Clark Atlanta trailed by as many as eight points midway through the first half. A 10-0 CAU run, capped by
Tyler Singleton's jumper with 2:43 left before halftime, gave the Panthers a 29-27 lead.
After leading at halftime 36-34 at the half, CAU got the lead up to six points early in the second half on
Maximo Guillermo's basket which made it 44-38. But a 17-2 Benedict run erased that lead, leaving CAU behind 55-46 with 12:16 remaining.
Four minutes later, Clark Atlanta was able to close to within one when
Romaine Thomas' free throws made it 57-56.
But over the next four minutes, Benedict seized control of the game with a 13-0 run that put them up 70-56 and put the game out of reach.
Tyler Singleton led CAU with 23 points, along with four rebounds and two assists. Thomas had 21 points, 15 rebounds and five assists.
Shannon Smith added nine points with three 3-pointers.
Deon Joyner led four Benedict players in double figures with 17 points, along with eight rebounds.
